I have been back at Peace for three months as Interim Pastor. The call committee has continued to work, as has the council, to lead Peace Lutheran Church. Some of you may know what the interim Pastor's responsibility is, some may not. First, let me say I have a lot of history with this congregation and love the people here as well as many people across Brevard County. All Pastors in many churches' primary call is to shepherd the flock of Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 4:11-13 states “11 And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.”
The Council called me when Pastor Trexler gave notice; I prayed and sought the Lord, had a meeting with part of the council, and continued to pray. The Lord said to come and serve. According to our agreement, Pastor Paul Rosbury agreed as interim Pastor to perform the following duties:
a. Give two days during the week to visit shut-ins, those in hospital and handle
office questions.
b. Perform Saturday night worship and Sunday morning worship services.
c. Perform memorial services as needed.
d. Direct office administrator regarding any announcement in the bulletin or email to members.
e. Authors an article for the church’s monthly newsletter.
f. Give a pastoral report to the monthly council meeting.
g. Give advice and best direction as to council questions.
h. Form committees for evangelism, stewardship, fellowship, and worship.
i. Resolve (to the best of your ability) any conflicts that members have.
j. Preach the Word of God based as the scripture lessons of the day.
k. And adhere to the Lutheran doctrine.
Also, as a called and ordained minister, I am responsible for the spiritual guidance of those I am ministering to and with. There is always more to do beyond any list because there are always unexpected activities. In short, the interim Pastor fills the role of Pastor to the church and all the challenges that come about.
As we celebrate Easter, we should also look forward to Pentecost on May 24. Over the next few weeks, I will be offering some evangelism training, what Pentecost is, and what it means to individuals as well as discussions on the differences between stewardship and evangelism.
If you have any prayer requests, please call Jacqui or complete a prayer request slip and see that I get them so I can pray over them during the service and if they are private, please mark them, appropriately.
I am always available to pray or discuss any issue you need to speak about. My cell phone is: 321-480-7422. If it goes to voicemail, I will call you back as soon as I am able.
Blessing In Jesus,
Pastor Paul
