Sunday Morning Study
Two adult bible studies meet each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Bring your bible and grow.
Weekly Bible Teaching
Every Sunday in worship, Pastor Dan leads the congregation in studying and
learning from the Bible. Bring your bible with you to worship and be ready to open and discover God’s gracious truth. We
also offer a variety of courses throughout the year. Read the The Olive Branch Monthly Newsletter to see what’s being
offered this month.
Introduction to Peace
This four week study introduces you to the biblical, theological,
spiritual and relational fundamentals that form the foundation for our ministry at Peace Lutheran Church.
On week one you will learn how we approach and interpret God’s Word in the Bible. Everyone interprets the bible.
The trick is being aware of how you approach the text so that you can hear God speaking to you rather than you
hearing the text for what you think it says. You will learn the difference between Exegesis and Eisegesis.
Week two you will learn the uniqueness of Lutheran theology and how it interacts with other theological traditions.
You will learn how the Church is one great choir lifting up praises to the Lord, our God. Like every great choir,
the Church has several sections that are to sing its unique part and as the choir comes together in unity (not unison)
it raises up a great chorus to God. Great choirs sing some sections in unison and then branch out to sing its part in
harmony with the whole choir. You will learn how the Lutheran section fits with the great choir of the Church.
Week three you will learn about Christian spirituality. What are the seven pearls of spirituality we can learn from the
Rule of St. Benedict? This week you will learn a basic understanding of how to put your Christian faith into practice.
Week four we turn to the specifics of life at Peace Lutheran Church. What does it mean to be a member? What do we expect
of each other as brothers and sisters of Christ who have chosen associate with this congregation? What are the values,
priorities and goals that we pursue?
The purpose of this study is to give an overview of life and faith at Peace. This course is offered two times a year
or as often as needed.
Gift Based Service and Leadership
This four week course uses the Strength Finder survey from Gallup Press and the Spiritual Gifts survey from
the Church Growth Institute to help participants discover their innate God given talents and their spiritual
gifts and focus. The spiritual gifts survey helps the participant define where God is calling them to serve.
The Strength Finder survey help the participant see how God has equipped them to fulfill their calling.
There are a couple of requirements for taking this course.
The first is to purchase one or the other (both if you prefer) of these books:
Strength Based Leadership by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie; or
Living Your Strengths by Albert L. Winseman, Donald O Clifton and Curt Liesveld.
The second requirement is to take the Strength Finder online survey using the code found at the back of either
of these books before the beginning of the class. It is best to take the Strength Finder survey before reading
the book. Send your Strength Finder results to the class leader before the first class.
The purpose of this study is to give the participant a clearer understand of how they can use their innate
and spiritual gifts to better results in their home, community, work and church.
